Abstract

Desalination is the process of removing salt from seawater or brackish water so that it can become fresh water. The term has been around for a long time, but is unknown to many people, including members of the Lantebung Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis). The Lantebung community has reportedly been experiencing clean water shortages for the past five years, while the Lantebung coastline stretches for 9.69 km. So this activity aims to provide knowledge related to the desalination process, the utilisation of desalinated water, and the development of Lantebung Mangrove Ecotourism. It is known that Lantebung Mangrove Ecotourism has been awarded as a Tourism Village and is one of the 75 best world-class Tourism Villages in Indonesia. This activity is the first of three main activities carried out on 12 October 2024 at the house of the Chairperson of the Lantebung Pokdarwis in Lantebung, Bira Village, Tamalanrea District, Makassar City, and carries the theme of Socialisation of the Desalination Process. Socialisation is needed as a means of transferring knowledge from presenters to participants, where there are six core materials delivered by six presenters from different disciplines, namely Differences in Seawater and Freshwater; Introduction to Desalination; Benefits of Desalination for Fish Farming Activities; Catfish Cultivation in Buckets; Lantebung Mangrove Ecotourism Development; and Marine Debris. Participants were very enthusiastic about the whole series of activities and couldn't wait to follow the rest of the programme.
