Abstract
Coral reefs are ecosystems that are vulnerable to health problems, so various coral conservation efforts need to be carried out sustainably, one of which is using the Coral Tree Nursery (CTN) on Barrang Lompo Island, Sangkarrang Islands District, Makassar City. Monitoring of corals also needs to be done periodically so that the condition of the coral can be known, both disease and health problems. This study aims to determine health problems and disease types found in coral fragments in the Coral Tree Nursery. The research method uses field experiments by placing three coral tree nursery modules consisting of coral fragments. Observations were carried out with an underwater macro camera for one month, and accompanied by measurements of physical parameters of the water. The results of the observations were then analyzed descriptively. Data on physical parameters of the waters showed conditions suitable for coral biota, including pH 8.01, temperature 30°C, salinity 27.67 ppt, current flow 0.07 m/s, brightness 100%, and depth 7 m. Coral species observed included Acropora cervicornis, Montipora digitata, Pocillopora damicornis, Porites compressa, and Echinopora horrida. Health disorders in corals consisted of disorders by algae, sponges, barnacles, fish bites, bleaching, shellfish, and fan worms (Sabellidae). The type of disease found was White Band Disease (WBD) in Acropora cervicornis coral with a frequency of six colonies. The presence of health disorders and diseases in cultivated coral fragments requires special attention because it can affect the survival rate and long-term growth of corals
