Abstract

Synthetic insecticides are quite effective in controlling Spodoptera frugiperda larvae, but there are various negative impacts on the environment, humans, and the occurrence of OPT resistance. Carica papaya contains insecticidal secondary metabolites. The design used was a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatment levels including 0%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.8% papaya leaf extract. The results showed that the compounds contained in the n-hexane extract of C. papaya leaves include alkaloids, steroids, and terpenoids. The n-hexane extract of papaya leaves had a significant effect on cumulative larval mortality at 23 days after application (DAP), mortality caused by the administration of n-hexane extract of C. papaya leaves was still less effective, which was still below 80%. In the development of instars II-VI, the 0.8% treatment was 8.93 days slower than the control treatment.
