Abstract

Increasing national rice production requires several strategies, including expanding the planting area by creating new rice fields, increasing land productivity, and expanding the harvest area by increasing the planting index (IP). The Tanah Datar Regency area produces lowland rice with different production in each sub-district. This difference in rice production results occurs due to differences in harvested area which is influenced by the rice planting index. One way to identify rice IP is by utilizing remote sensing technology through vegetation indices to see rice growth phases on Landsat 8 satellite images. A reliable vegetation index calculation in determining rice growth phases is the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI). This research aims to determine the paddy field planting index in Sungai Tarab District. This research utilizes Landsat 8 satellite imagery in 2021 and 2022. This research uses quantitative descriptive analysis through interpretation of Landsat 8 satellite imagery recorded in 2021 and 2022 and field survey data. This research produces results of the rice growth phases in 2021 and 2022, maps of the distribution of planting indices in 2021 and 2022, and several factors that influence differences in planting indices. Based on the distribution of the planting index in 2022, it has increased compared to 2022, namely there are three classes of planting index IP 100, IP 200, and IP 300. Meanwhile, the irrigation network is the main factor in influencing the IP of rice in Sungai Tarab District.
